Project Description:
KINGSTON- PLYMOUTH- RECONSTRUCTION OF A SECTION OF ROUTE 3 AND RELOCATION OF ROUTE 44 INCLUDING 5 BRIDGES (SECTION II)
Section II is the continuation from the Route 44 Reloc/Section III northerly project limit, near the Route 3 Rest Area that was completed in May 1997 (Section III included the reconstruction of the Route 3, Exit 6 Interchange and reconstruction of Samoset Street). A new Trumpet (Three-Leg) Interchange is now constructed at the Route 3 Exit #7 Interchange to direct westerly traffic along a new double-barrel limited access, divided highway (2 lanes EB, and 2 lanes WB). It continues westerly to include the proposed new Connector Road Interchange at the Plymouth/Kingston town line (this exit replaced Exit #7 traffic to Cherry Street/Plymouth). This section also includes the construction of four (4) new bridges, a new tunnel, two (2) earth berm barriers; one (visual) @ Plymouth Housing Authority, and one (noise) @ Liberty Condominium; and a new 547-car Park & Ride Lot with 50% MBTA participation (T’s mitigation for Ts new RR Station to Kingston near Rte. 3 exit #8). This lot was originally intended to replace the existing Plymouth & Brockton Bus Facility impacted by this project.
