Project Description:
LOWELL- BRIDGE REHABILITATION, BR# L-15-022 SCHOOL STREET OVER THE NORTHERN CANAL & MERRIMACK RIVER
The proposed project consists of two sequential structures, the Northern Canal bridge and the bridge over the Merrimack River. The Northern Canal bridge includes removal and replacement of the historic 1917 reinforced concrete arch-shaped beams and deck, construction of an adjacent pedestrian ramp, partial reconstruction of existing granite piers and abutments, installation of rock anchors, reconstruction of the roadway and sidewalks at the fill section over the 1848 and 1871 segments of the structure. The stairway will also be replaced. The Merrimack River structure will be replaced with a new concrete deck.
