SPRINGFIELD- ROADWAY RECONSTRUCTION ON PARKER STREET INCLUDING BRIDGE REPLACEMENT, BR# S-24-020 CONRAIL OVER PARKER STREET

The proposed project is the reconstruction of approximately 5,540 feet of Parker Street, from Boston Road to Main Street, including 250 feet of Verge Street, and 400 feet of Oak Street, resulting in a total roadway reconstruction of approximately 6,190 linear feet. The new CSX bridge carrying three tracks over Parker Street will be raised to provide more roof clearance for vehicular traffic under the bridge. The new longer bridge will also eliminate the current 30 foot wide underpass roadway bottleneck on Parker Street. The new underpass section will be increased to widened to 64 feet, which consists of two turning lanes, two through traffic lanes, and two sidewalks. This major north/south inner city transportation and commercial artery carries an ADT approaching 31,000. The project also entails geometric improvements and the upgrade of existing signalization, and new signalization with pedestrian activation at intersection crossings along Parker Street.
