Project Description:
WORCESTER- SIGNAL & INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS AT CAMBRIDGE STREET AND SOUTHBRIDGE STREET
This project will enhance safety and improve efficiency by installing improved traffic signals at the intersection of Cambridge Street and Southbridge Street and by installing new traffic signals at the intersection of Southbridge Street and Riverside Street. These two traffic signals will be coordinated to allow for a more efficient flow of traffic. Roadway widening on Southbridge Street will allow for five lanes of travel at the Cambridge Street intersection. Also at that intersection, there will be geometric improvements to the turning radii, particularly at the corner where St. Matthew's Parish is located. There will be some minor widening of Riverside Street to provide for a two-lane (left turn and right turn) approach to Southbridge Street and there will be a lane reconfiguration (with no actual widening) of McKeon Road to provide for a two-lane (left turn and right turn) approach to Cambridge Street. Also at the intersection of Southbridge Street and College Street, the timing of the traffic signals will be improved to ease traffic congestion.
