CARVER- MIDDLEBOROUGH- BRIDGE REPLACEMENT, C-04-004=M-18-025, ROCHESTER ROAD OVER WEWEANTIC RIVER
The Rochester Road bridge was originally constructed in 1924 as a two-span reinforced concrete T-beam structure. The bridge is now structurally deficient and will be replaced with a new bridge which will accommodate two 11 foot travel lanes and two 2 foot shoulders. The length of the proposed single span bridge will be 66 feet, which carries Rochester Road over the Weweantic River in the Towns of Carver and Middleborough.
The Rochester Road bridge replacement also involves full depth reconstruction of approximately 280 feet north and 45 feet south of the bridge along Rochester Road. Also included is the reconstruction of the intersection of Rochester Road, East Street, and Pine Street for a distance of 220 feet west and 150 feet east. The work also includes clearing and grubbing, installation of guardrail, construction of a sidewalk and wheelchair ramps, drainage improvements, pavement marking and construction of retaining walls of approximately 100 feet from each of the north bridge wing walls and one extending approximately 60 around from the southeast wing wall. The total length of the project will be approximately 924 feet. The bridge will be closed during construction and a temporary detour will be provided for abutters. Temporary and/or permanent construction easements will be required.
