This contract includes the widening of approximately 1.36 miles of I-95 (Route 128) and the replacement of the Route 1 and 1A Bridges over I-95 in the Towns of Dedham and Westwood. The widening, which will include a 12-foot travel lane and 10-foot shoulder toward the median, will extend between the MBTA Franklin Commuter Rail Bridge located just south of the Route 1 bridge structures and extending north to the high point of the roadway between the Route 1A and Route 109 bridge structures. The proposed Route 1 structure will consist of a two-span steel superstructure. The proposed Route 1A bridges will both be single span steel structures each with a span length of approximately 33.0 meters or 108 feet. A temporary three lane bridge will be constructed over I-95 on the north side of Route 1 to manage the existing traffic during construction. Staged construction will be required for the Route 1A bridges, replacing one half at a time. One travel lane in each direction will be open during the Route 1A bridge replacements. Four noise barrier locations, along with landscaping, will be constructed within this contract, adjacent to the following local roads: Poplar Street, Robinwood Road, Chickering Road and Manning Road. Major drainage improvements will also be installed during this contract.
