Project Description:
ATTLEBORO- BRIDGE RECONSTRUCTION, A-16-032, ROUTE 1A (NEWPORT AVENUE) OVER MBTA-AMTRAK-SHORE
The work under this project consists of the replacement of the Newport Avenue (Route 1A) Bridge over the MBTA/AMTRAK Railroad. The new structure will have a curb to curb width of approximately 72 feet, accommodating four 12-foot travel lanes and a 12-foot deceleration lane for the adjacent Bristol Plaza entrance. The proposed widening of the structure will help facilitate the staged construction requirements of maintaining 4 lanes of traffic during construction. The new structure will be a single span reinforced concrete deck supported on steel beams and new concrete abutments. The approach roadways to the bridge will be fully reconstructed approximately 300 to 400 feet on each side to match the existing grades of the roadway. The horizontal alignment will remain essentially the same. Cement concrete sidewalks will be constructed on both sides of the bridge.
