PITTSFIELD- INTERSECTION & SIGNAL IMPROVEMENTS ON ROUTE 20 (WEST HOUSATONIC ST) FROM BRITTON STREET TO SOUTH MERRIAM STREET, INCLUDING BARKER ROAD

This project will improve safety and the flow of traffic along 1130 feet of Route 20 (West Housatonic Street) from the intersection of Britton Street to the intersection of South Merriam Street, including the intersection of Barker Road. At the intersection of Route 20 and Britton Street, and also at the intersection of Route 20 and Barker Road, the existing traffic signals will be replaced with fully actuated traffic signals that meet the current standards. The signals at Barker Road will also include a signal for the convenience store driveway. Also, Barker Road will be widened at the approach to Route 20, allowing for a separate travel lane for right turns only. At the intersection of Route 20 and South Merriam Street, new traffic signals will be installed. These signals will be coordinated with the signals at Barker Road, as well as the signals at Britton Street, significantly improving efficiency. Other improvements include the construction of new sidewalk on both sides of Route 20.
