Project Description:
HARDWICK- WARE- BRIDGE REHABILITATION, H-08-012=W-05-002, BRIDGE STREET OVER WARE RIVER (AKA - GILBERTVILLE BRIDGE)
The project is in the early design stage with design input being solicited from the Boards of Selectmen and Historic Commissions in both Towns. The draft Preliminary Structures Report, prepared by FS&T for MassHighway, recommends the following: increase the bridge live load to H15 by installing a steel I-beam framing system that runs beneath and along the length of the bridge; install crash-tested safety railings along the interior of the bridge; and use the bridge for alternating one-way traffic. One-way traffic is recommended because the installation of safety railings reduces the roadway width to 16 feet 3 inches roadway, which is too narrow for two-way traffic.
