WORCESTER- BRIDGE RECONSTRUCTION, W-44-094, (SR 9) BELMONT STREET OVER I-290, INCLUDES PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE

This proposed project in Worcester will replace the bridge carrying Route 9 (Belmont Street) over Interstate 290. The bridge must be replaced due to its non-standard features and deteriorated condition. The proposed bridge will be a two span continuous steel girder structure with a reinforced concrete deck and hot mix asphalt wearing surface. The bridge will be constructed in the same footprint as the existing bridge with the same length. However, the new bridge will be built approximately 15.5 feet wider to the South. The widening is necessary to maintain two lanes of traffic at all times during construction and will allow for the addition of a dedicated left turn lane for turns from Route 9 west bound onto Interstate I-290.
