SALISBURY- MULTI-USE TRAIL CONSTRUCTION, FROM THE MERRIMACK RIVER TO MUDNOCK ROAD
The rail trail is planned on a section of the abandoned railroad bed that begins at the Newburyport bridge and travels through Salisbury and eventually to Seabrook NH. This section of the proposed trail will be parallel to Route 1 beginning at the Merrimack River and ending at Mudnock Road approximately 1.4 miles. The proposed trail abuts conservation land owned by the Town and crosses over town creek and extensive marsh lands. A lease to the abandoned Railroad bed has been granted allowing the town to move toward the regional goal of connecting the trails from Amesbury and beyond Newburyport as part of the Borders to Boston trail system. The trail is also adjacent to Department of Fisheries and Wildlife Management Area. This area includes Carr, Ram and Eagle Islands. The trail would also provide for future connection to two other major public facilities near the center of town; the town’s main public park and Senior Center, which are adjacent to the right of way.
