SHEFFIELD- BRIDGE REPLACEMENT, S-10-023, STATE ROUTE 7A (ASHLEY FALLS ROAD) OVER THE HOUSATONIC RAILROAD
The purpose of this project is to replace the bridge carrying Ashley Falls Road (Route 7A) over the Housatonic Railroad in the Town of Sheffield. The existing bridge, which was built in 1936, has a curb-to-curb width of 40 feet with one 6.2-foot sidewalk. The purposed bridge will maintain the same curb-to-curb width with one 6.5-foot sidewalk. The proposed bridge will be constructed to accommodate the rail service minimum vertical clearance requirements. Ashley Falls Road is a two-lane, two-way, rural minor collector. Work on the roadway will include full depth reconstruction of maximum of 250 feet beyond the bridge on both approaches. Once beyond the limits of reconstruction, the pavement will be cold planed to match the existing pavement on the two approaches. The bridge will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic during the demolition, removal, and replacement of the existing bridge. A detour will be provided for vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
