Project Description:
MONTAGUE- REHABILITATION OF HATCHERY ROAD & GREENFIELD ROAD PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE, M-28-009, FROM GREENFIELD ROAD NORTHEASTERLY TO THE INTERSECTION OF TURNERS FALLS RD (.41 MILES)
The project will rehabilitate town-owned Hatchery Road in Montague. Since the demolition of the Greenfield Road Bridge over the B&M railroad, Hatchery Road has provided a detour connection between Turners Falls Road and the northerly section of Greenfield Road. The 0.41 mile reclamation/minor widening of Hatchery Road is required to formalize Hatchery Road as the permanent route, thus avoiding the costly replacement of the highway bridge over the railroad. Roadway improvements will include drainage system repairs/upgrades and related work. Under a separate project, a pedestrian bridge is proposed to be constructed at the former highway bridge site to provide a link for bicycles and pedestrians.
