MALDEN- REVERE- SAUGUS- RECONSTRUCTION & WIDENING ON ROUTE 1, FROM ROUTE 60 TO ROUTE 99
The purpose of this project is to eliminate a bottleneck on Route 1 in the project area by adding a lane in each direction for a consistent six-lane facility in order to improve traffic flow and safety. The project would provide improvements to the 2.4 mile section of Route 1 from 1,500 feet south of the Route 1/Route 60 Interchange (Copeland Circle) north through the Route 1/Route 99 interchange. The project includes reconfiguration of the Route 1/Salem Street and Route 1/Lynn Street interchanges, and the construction of a new ramp from Route 1 South to Route 60 South (Squire Road) at Copeland Circle. The major benefits of the project are: the establishment of a consistent cross section for Route 1 to eliminate a bottleneck; and the elimination of substandard exit and entrance ramps.
