Project Description: |
HINGHAM- IMPROVEMENTS ON ROUTE 3A, FROM OTIS STREET/COLE ROAD INCLUDING SUMMER STREET AND ROTARY, ROCKLAND STREET TO GEORGE WASHINGTON BOULEVARD
Work on this project includes a potential road diet along the corridor to reduce the 4-lane cross section to 2-lanes for the purpose of providing bike accommodation. The project will also provide improved pedestrian accommodation in the form of ADA compliant walkways both sides of the roadway (and possible expansion of an existing sidewalk into a shared use path along the water front) where feasible.
Traffic signal improvements are proposed at 4 locations: 3A/North St.; Summer St./Martins Lane; Rockland Street/George Washington Blvd.; and, the existing ground mounted traffic signals on 3A at the North entrance/exit to the Public Beach parking area. In addition, the Route 3A (Summer Street) rotary is proposed for improvements, the preferred alternative being a modern roundabout over signalization.
The project may also introduce
a planted/landscaped median island along a section of the corridor (Summer Street portion). Finally, storm water management improvements, new signage and pavement markings are also proposed.
