NEW MARLBOROUGH- SUPERSTRUCTURE REPLACEMENT, N-08-022, HADSELL STREET OVER UMPACHENE RIVER

The existing structure was constructed in 1938. The superstructure is composed of single span stringers with a reinforced concrete deck and bituminous concrete wearing surface. The overall bridge length is 45.9 feet, the curb to curb roadway width is 20.0 feet, and the out-to-out width of deck is 23.9 feet. There are no sidewalks. The substructure consists of two concrete gravity abutments and four concrete wingwalls on spread footings. The bridge was built with a 15 degree skew. The new superstructure structure shall be designed using the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and the Departments Bridge Manual with 2008 LRFD Bridge Design Guidelines. The bridge is to be replaced with a single span superstructure on the existing abutments. The superstructure system anticipated is the precast pre-stressed NEXT beams with an 8 inch HP 4,000 psi concrete deck and 3 1/2 inch HMA wearing surface. The existing abutment seats are to be removed and re-cast to accommodate the new superstructure using Bridge Manual details.
