Project Description:
MIDDLEBOROUGH- CABLE BARRIER INSTALLATION ON I-495
Cable barriers will be installed along I-495 Mile Marker 6 to Mile Marker 15.1 for a distance of 9.1 miles. This location has been selected for cable barrier installation because, based on the statewide crash data, it has been identified as the top fatal and incapacitating injury cross median crash locations in the state. A Road Safety Audit (which included field visits, meetings and a formal report) has already been conducted with the State Police, Regional Planning Agency, MassHighway District and Boston offices, FHWA and others. As a result, cable barrier installation has been recommended to reduce the incidence of fatal and injury crashes, which is the overarching goal of the MA Strategic Highway Safety Plan (a multi-agency document prepared in October 2006).
