DUNSTABLE- RETAINING WALL CONSTRUCTION ON ROUTE 113
The project is designed to maintain the existing horizontal curve (R=360’+/-) layout. A minimum 340 foot radius is recommended for 35 MPH speed. The existing dry stone retaining wall is not supporting the roadway very well and is in need of repair/replacement. The Town has discussed the project and the need to acquire additional right-of-way with owners of the abutting property (Map 17 Lot 137), George & Susan McGovern. The proposed roadway layout is based on the existing travel way center line. The layout proposes a 244’+/- long horizontal curve with a radius of 360’ in front of Lot 137 connecting to the existing pavement centerline.
The roadway will be reconstructed and the proposed pavement width is 25’ with two 11’ wide travel lanes marked by pavement markings with 1.5’ shoulders. The existing Steel Highway Guardrail Type SS will be replaced with a consistent appearance of a steel guardrail (weathering steel) system. The 2-foot offset from the edge of pavement to the face of guardrail will be grass. A reinforced concrete retaining wall, along with stone fascia, is proposed 3’ behind the guardrail posts. A double solid yellow no passing zone marking and solid white edge lines are proposed for the roadway.
