FITCHBURG- LUNENBURG- LEOMINSTER- RECONSTRUCTION OF SUMMER STREET AND NORTH STREET

The project involves full depth reconstruction on Summer Street in Lunenburg and Fitchburg and cold plane and overlay of North Street in Leominster. The proposed cross-section involves reducing the roadway pavement width to 12 foot travel lanes with 8 foot shoulders. A sidewalk is proposed along both sides of roadway and a closed drainage system will be installed from the Leominster/Lunenburg town line to John Fitch Highway. Minor gateway landscaping at the Leominster/Lunenburg town line to differentiate the residential area of North Road from the more industrial area of Summer Street is proposed. The intersections of Summer Street and Graham Street, Summer Street and Whalom Road and Summer Street with Youngs Road will be realigned to improve intersection sight distance and to facilitate vehicle turning movements. Granite curbing and guardrail will be installed along the project corridor, as well as pavement markings and signage.
