OTIS- BRIDGE REPLACEMENT, (O-05-014) TOLLAND ROAD OVER OTIS RESERVOIR DAM (DCR P10-2654-C1A)
It is anticipated that the superstructure will be replaced with a single span spread pre-stressed concrete box beam bridge. There will be a composite concrete deck with a hot mix asphalt wearing surface. It is anticipated that the foundation will be new integral abutments located behind the existing abutments. Construction of new integral abutments shall require that the existing abutments be partially removed to allow clearance for construction and inspection of the new superstructure. Construction of an integral abutment behind the north abutment within the earthen dam will have to be carefully detailed. Early coordination with the dam owner will be required as well as exchange of dam drawings.
The bridge profile shall meet the approach roadway profile. If required for structure depth concerns, the profile could be raised on the bridge, meeting the approach roadway profile just beyond the bridge. The curb to curb width of the bridge shall be 32 feet matching the approach roadway width. The bridge shall have one 6.5 feet sidewalk on the east side. The bridge rail shall be S3-TL4, possibly painted green.
The construction of the bridge will be completed in two phases to allow traffic during the construction. It is suggested that the northbound half be constructed first. A traffic management plan is required. Utilities in the area shall be maintained.
