Project Description:
FALL RIVER- CONSTRUCTION OF A TYPE II NOISE BARRIER
The proposed project will involve the construction of a Type II noise barrier along the westbound side of Interstate195 (I-195) in Fall River for the purpose of alleviating the traffic noise impacts to the qualifying existing residential homes adjacent to this location. A feasibility study was conducted in 2006 to identify potential alternatives. A preferred alternative was chosen based on providing noise relief, constructing the facility and minimizing resource impacts to the maximum extent practicable. The proposed barrier is approximately 2,800 feet in length with a height ranging from 8 feet to 25 feet above existing ground. The barrier will be a post and panel system mounted on concrete footing or rock anchored, depending upon the terrain. The barrier west of the Route 6 overpass will be constructed approximately at a 12 foot offset from the edge of pavement along the existing roadway sideslope. The barrier east of Route 6 will be constructed at approximately a 5 foot offset from the State Highway Layout Line at the top of slope. The proposed work will also include the replacement of the existing guardrail.
