ASHFIELD- RETAINING WALL REPAIRS ON ROUTE 116 ALONG THE SOUTH RIVER (2 LOCATIONS)

The two existing retaining walls, located along Route 116 (eastbound) and South River, in the vicinity of the Bullitt Road intersection in Ashfield, will be replaced. The new retaining walls will be constructed behind the existing walls (farther away from the river) which would reduce potential work in the river. The eastern wall will be constructed from the Bullitt Road intersection to approximately 800 feet east of it. The western wall will extend from approximately 800 to 1,700 feet west of the intersection. The project also includes limited widening of Route 116 (along the wall alignments) and construction of a new stone retaining wall along Route 116 westbound (and in the eastern wall construction area), where cuts into the hillside will be needed.
