CHICOPEE- TRAFFIC SIGNAL IMPROVEMENTS & RAMP RESURFACING @ I-90 (INTERCHANGE 6) INCLUDING REPAIRS TO C-13-026
The purpose of this project is to increase vehicle capacity through Interchange 6 between I-90 and I-291 and to improve traffic signalization. The project consists of roadway reconstruction, widening, and micromilling and resurfacing at Interchange 6 and on sections of I-291 and Burnett Road in Chicopee. The roadway work begins north of the American Legion Memorial Bridge ends on I-90 Entrance Ramp A. Proposed reconstructed areas on this project include a large radius triple left turn ramp onto I-291 from I-90, new tandem truck parking lot entrance and exit ramps off the mainline, and a realigned ramp onto I-291 eastbound from Fuller Road. Widened areas on this project include a section of I-291 westbound and the ramps from I-291 to I-90. I-291 will be widened for better alignment with Burnett Road and with the proposed triple left turn lanes from I-90 and the ramps will be widened for a second travel lane. Other work included under this contract includes traffic signal improvements on I-291 and Burnett Road, a new 8 foot wide sidewalk connecting Burnett Road with the American Legion Memorial Bridge, new wheelchair ramps, new drainage structures, pipes, and paved waterways, new traffic signs, new pavement markings, minor tree clearing to improve sight distances, and erosion and sedimentation control.
