MassDOT designated a 740-mile network of bicycle routes across the Commonwealth as part of the 2008 Massachusetts Bicycle Transportation Plan. This network, known as the Bay State Greenway (BSG), covers shared use paths and on-road facilities in seven corridors. This project constitutes the Bay State Greenway Connecticut River Corridor/Pioneer Valley Pilot. Under this project, MassDOT will implement the BSG in Districts 1 and 2 by installing signs on existing posts along the Franklin County Bikeway, on two state highway segments, and on shared use paths throughout the region.
