HOLYOKE- WEST SPRINGFIELD- IMPROVEMENTS & RELATED WORK ON I-91/ROUTE 5/I-90 CONNECTOR ROAD

The project consists of roadway resurfacing and minor widening on the I-91/Rte 5/I-90 Interchange in West Springfield. The project begins at the ends of the ramps connecting I-91NB & SB at Interchange #14 and extends to the ends of the ramps connecting to the RTE-5 NB & SB travel lanes. The total length of the Project is 0.75 miles, involving 2 miles of individual ramp roadways. The project shall not include any bridge work or I-90 interchange ramp work within the project limits. The work shall consist of 2,000 feet of box-widening to allow separate ramp lanes where a merge is currently required between the I-91 northbound and southbound off-ramps at Interchange #14, replacing the median single-face W beam with double-face thrie beam guardrail, and placing HMA pavement in accordance with Section 450 Quality Assurance Specifications for HMA Pavements and Section 455 Superpave HMA Specifications. Overhead guide sign installation for NB & SB travel lanes. The work also includes the following: pavement milling and resurfacing with hot mix asphalt, curb edging removal, installing type-a bituminous curb, installing painted pavement markings, installing reflectorized slotted pavement markers, w-beam guardrail removal, installing double-face thrie-beam, hook lock grate installation, traffic controls and erosion/sedimentation control measures. The milling and paving operations shall be coordinated to pave and mill in each work shift.
