MONROE- ROWE- SUPERSTRUCTURE REPLACEMENT, M-26-002=R-10-002, DEPOT STREET OVER THE DEERFIELD RIVER
This municipally owned, weathering steel truss is both structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. Constructed in 1992, a posted 3-ton weight restriction severely limits vehicle usage, especially emergency services, between Rowe and Monroe. Complete closure of the bridge would result in a 19 mile detour.
The bridge, a single span structure spanning 148 feet, currently carries two-way traffic with a curb to curb width of 24 feet. There is an existing sidewalk on the north side, outside of the truss. Current AASHTO Rating is 5 (deck) – 3 (superstructure) – 6 (substructure/abutments). It is currently envisioned that the proposed project would replace the superstructure only, however, if a heavier replacement structure is required, then additional substructure work would also be included.
