NORTH ADAMS- CONSTRUCTION OF PEDESTRIAN UNDERPASS (PAN AM RR) NEAR AMERICAN LEGION DRIVE

This project will construct an underpass for bike/ped use under an active Pan Am rail line. The intent of the project is to provide a safe, accessible, and convenient link between two of the city’s economic development target areas – which would allow greater bike/ped mobility and access to various downtown destinations (Western Gateway Heritage State Park, Noel Field Athletic Complex, MassMOCA, and MCLA). The project would support development of affordable housing within Heritage State Park by linking the Park to the rest of downtown. This underpass is also envisioned to provide a critical railroad crossing to connect the Mohawk Bike Trail from the west (Williamstown) to the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail from the south (Lanesborough).
