EASTON- CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENTS ON ROUTE 138 INCLUDING INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS AT ROUTE 138 (WASHINGTON STREET) AND ELM STREET
Installation of traffic signals including ped signals is proposed at this location.
In addition, the realignment of the west leg of Elm Street is proposed to to align with the opposite Elm Street approach. The intersection improvements will involve reconstructing approximately 500 feet of Washington Street, 100 feet of the east leg of Elm Street, and 500 feet of the realigned west leg of Elm Street.
Sidewalks will be constructed on both sides of Washington Street and on both sides of the west leg of Elm Street, connecting to an existing sidewalk west of Frothingham Drive. Bike accommodating shoulders will also be provided on Washington Street within the existing right of way.
Proposed related work includes constructing sidewalks along Washington Street Northerly both sides between Elm Street and Union Street, a distance of approximately 3,500 feet. The existing closed drainage system will also be modified within the project limits to better capture and treat stormwater runoff. Five foot bike lanes are proposed on the intersection approaches and on the Washington Street corridor between Elm Street and Union Street.
Pavement rehabilitation will generally be accomplished through milling and overlay, with full depth box widening where necessary at the intersection. The realignment of Elm Street will require full depth construction.
