Project Description:
ADAMS- CHESHIRE- LANESBOROUGH- RESURFACING ON THE ASHUWILLTICOOK RAIL TRAIL, FROM THE PITTSFIELD T.L. TO THE ADAMS VISITOR CENTER
The existing 11.2 mile Ashuwillticook Rail Trail runs from the Pittsfield/Lanesborough line to the Adams Visitor Center and was constructed in two phases; completed in 2001 and 2004, respectively. As with other rail trails across the Commonwealth, over time the surface has begun to deteriorate; and root damage can cause serious public safety issues. The rail trail is currently at the stage where it requires reconstruction and resurfacing. Addressing these needs now will prolong service life of the trail, decrease the rate of further deterioration, and prevent more costly repairs in the future.
