Project Description:
GLOUCESTER- BRIDGE RECONSTRUCTION, G-05-002, WESTERN AVENUE OVER BLYNMAN CANAL
The Blynman Bridge carries Route 127 (Western Ave) over the Blynman Canal. The bridge is a vital link as one of two bridges providing access to Gloucester. The bridge has passed its useful life and is in an advanced state of deterioration. This project was initiated to develop a viable bridge replacement for this location. The scope of the project includes replacement of the existing movable bridge with a new movable bridge. To achieve this and maintain traffic, a temporary bypass will be built immediately to the south of the bridge, which will include a movable span over the navigation channel. Navigation channel closures will be required during portions of the project and coordinated with the United States Coast Guard.
