TEWKSBURY- LOWELL- INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS AT ANDOVER STREET (ROUTE 133) AND RIVER ROAD

The proposed improvements include the installation of a fully-actuated traffic signal; re-alignment of the north and south intersection approaches; minor widening of Andover St to provide a 4-lane cross section west of the intersection, a 3-lane cross section east of the intersection, bicycle lanes and sidewalks on both sides; minor widening of River Rd to provide a 3-lane cross section with sidewalks on both sides; full-depth pavement reclaim of Andover St in Tewksbury; full-depth pavement reconstruction of Andover St in Lowell; mill and overlay of River Rd; removal of crosswalks and ADA ramps just north and west of the intersection; ADA compliant wheelchair ramps at the intersection; drainage upgrades/modifications, and MUTCD compliant signs and pavements markings. The improvements will extend approximately 1600’ along Andover Street and 500’ along River Road, and will be designed to meet the approval of MassDOT and the Town of Tewksbury. The work will also require coordination with the City of Lowell for the work along Andover Street that falls within their jurisdiction.
