CHICOPEE- INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS AT MONTGOMERY STREET, GRANBY ROAD, AND MCKINSTRY AVENUE

The Project as proposed includes replacing the signalized intersections of Granby Road at McKinstry Avenue and Granby Road at Montgomery Street with a multi-lane peanut-shaped roundabout, and the intersection of Montgomery Street at MassPike Access and UHaul Driveway with a single-lane roundabout. Given the safety concern and high crashes along Montgomery Street, it is proposed to separate the northbound and southbound directions of travel with a raised median, also restricting driveway access between Granby Road and the MassPike Access roadway. The roadways would require complete reconstruction, including new curbing, sidewalks, and signage throughout the project limits. Bicycle accommodations would be separated from vehicular traffic via a 10-foot shared-use path on the outside of the proposed roundabouts.
