The proposed project limits extend along Race Street (Appleton Street to Cabot Street, approx. 1,000-linear feet) and along Cabot Street (Race Street to the Willimansett Bridge, approx. 2,000-linear feet).
On Race Street, the project included the rehabilitation of pavement (mill and overlay), new sidewalks, on-street parking, and a connection to the Phase II Canal Walk.
On Cabot Street, the project includes the rehabilitation of pavement (mill and overlay), new sidewalks, and minor roadway widening to accommodate two 11-foot travel lanes, 5-foot shoulders for bicycle accommodates, and 7-foot wide parallel parking spaces on both sides of roadway.
Two traffic signals are proposed to be upgraded, Main Street at Cabot Street and Cabot Street at South Canal Street.
Finally, there is a bridge over the third level canal (between South Canal Street and the Willimansett Bridge) that is owned by MassDOT where the sidewalks and the parapet walls will be repaired and/ or replaced with a moment slab sidewalk/ wall combination. There are jersey barriers currently present on the easterly side of the bridge. This bridge is known as the Cabot Street Bridge (H-21-008).
