Project Description:
BOURNE- BOURNE RAIL TRAIL (PHASE 2)
The Bourne Rail Trail Phase II project is a proposed 2-mile multi-use path extending from the terminus of the future Bourne Rail Trail Phase I at Monument Neck Road to the north to Monk's Park at Valley Bars Road to the south. The Bourne Rail Trail is a rail-with-trail type path, running alongside the existing railroad tracks in Bourne. Separation between the trail and the existing tracks is crucial to the project for safety purposes, as well as the improvement of raised and at-grade crossings for safe access for bicyclists and pedestrians. The existing rail line has a above water crossing at Back River and an above road crossing at Emmons Road and Valley Bars Circle (the proposed end of the Phase II section). There is also one bridge crossing over the rail line at Briarwood Lane. The bridge crossing over Emmons Road could be converted to an at grade crossing for the rail trail if significant filling were to take place, otherwise a rail trail bridge would be needed at this location parallel to the existing train bridge. The rail trail Phase II would terminate at Valley Bars Circle, so the rail trail would end at grade with the roadway for users to access the road. There are also 4 at grade crossings throughout the proposes rail trail corridor. Crossing are located at the Lobster Trap access road/residential access road (unnamed), Evergreen Hill Road, Worcester Avenue, and the emergency beach access road at Monument Beach.
