SHEFFIELD- SUPERSTRUCTURE REPLACEMENT, S-10-024, COUNTY ROAD OVER IRONWORKS BROOK
The current proposal is to replace the superstructure and keep the curb-to-curb width the same as the original (2-11-11-2). Bridge rails will be standard S3-TL4 with precast highway guardrail transitions. The top portion of the abutments will be demolished to below the bottom of the bridge seat and reconstructed with reinforced concrete. Approximately 100-ft of the existing roadway approaches will be reconstructed as necessary with appropriate guardrail transitions. The residential driveway near the southeast corner of the bridge will require accommodation.
The designer will investigate and document the possible use of spread deck beams with a cast-in-place concrete deck to decrease the total superstructure depth and to minimize the new reinforced concrete cap. A galvanized steel superstructure replacement alternative will also be considered. A complete bridge replacement alternative will also be investigated to allow cost and constructability comparisons to a superstructure replacement. The bridge alignment and profile will remain approximately the same while increasing the hydraulic opening under the bridge.
