DISTRICT 5- SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS

The project will improve safety for all road users by implementing short-term safety improvements at various targeted locations to be determined. Improvements may include signage, pavement markings, improving existing crosswalks or installing new crosswalks, signal timing updates, curb extensions, etc. This project is being initiated for mainland with a preliminary list of projects included below: Corridor-wide systematic improvements: -Implement passing zone closure per District Traffic Section recommendations -Barnstable Route 6A - review speed posting and signs (coordinate with HQ) -Scituate Route 3A - evaluate data from temp trailers and for possible permanent installation of speed feedback signs (Henry Turner Blvd to First Parish), tree trimming for visibility Specific locations: -Fairhaven - Benoit Square (Main St/Adams northern intersection at square, review signal timing at Main/Adams/Howland) -Marion - Rte 105/Front St: review for exclusive left turn on Rte 6 and other short term improvements -Rehoboth - Rte 6/Barney Ave evaluate constructing an island to restrict left (create right in right out), tree trimming -Easton - Rte 138/Turnpike St: better channelization of Rte 138/Turnpike intersection -Bourne - Rte 28/Waterhouse: investigate stop instead of yield -Hanover - Rte 53/139/Broadway (Top 200): install back plates, adjust all red clearance, review traffic signal operation -Hanover - Rte 139/Grove St: Right-in/right-out (coordinate with Town, who may implement prior to this project) -West Bridgewater - Rte 28/Matfield - delineate intersection with curbing, improve ped accommodation across Rte 28 -Bridgewater - Rte 28/18/Grove St: review lane assignment, review one way in/out of Grove St -Scituate Roundabout: signage, pavement markings, concrete truck apron
