Project Description:
REHOBOTH- DECK REPLACEMENT, R-04-018 (3U4, 3U5), I-195 (EB/WB) OVER PALMER RIVER
The project involves removal of the existing non-composite bridge deck and replacement with a new 8” thick reinforced concrete composite bridge deck. The existing bridge railings will be replaced with new CF-MTL5 reinforced concrete bridge barriers. The width of the proposed bridge deck is 57’-2” with a roadway width of 53’-7 ½”. This project also involves the following. Replacement of all existing steel bridge bearings with proposed elastomeric bearings. Inspection of top cover plate end weld for fatigue cracks and repairs as required based on the inspections. Installation of steel bearing stiffeners at the east abutments only. Installation of new steel diaphragms in each bay offset 5’-0” from the centerline of each pier. Installation of new steel diaphragms in the stage construction bay. Modification of east backwall to support new bridge joint. Concrete repairs to bridge abutments, backwalls and pier. Work in the approach roadways shall include full depth reconstruction, bridge barrier to highway guardrail transitions, and highway guardrail. The demolition/construction will be conducted with staged construction so that two lanes of traffic are being maintained at all times.
