EVERETT- TARGETED MULTI-MODAL AND SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS ON ROUTE 16 (DESIGN ONLY)
The project team is proposing a two-phase approach for implementing infrastructure improvements along the project corridor. The first phase would include the implementation of short-term and mid-term safety enhancements recommended as part of the Road Safety Audit (RSA) that was conducted for the project corridor in August 2021, including reducing the roadway cross section from six lanes (three lanes in each direction) to four lanes (two lanes in each direction) to reduce vehicle conflict points and to provide safe facilities for pedestrians and cyclists along the corridor. These improvements would be implemented as a short-term targeted safety project using signs, pavement markings, minor traffic signal improvements, and limited ADA upgrades to assess operational and safety effects prior to a full corridor reconstruction project
