Project Description: |
AMHERST- HADLEY- RESURFACING AND RELATED WORK ON ROUTE 116
The work to be done under this contract consists of resurfacing a section of Route 116 in the towns of Amherst and Hadley. The work begins at the intersection of Route 9/Route 116 at mile marker 20.5 and continues north to the intersection of Meadow Street/Route 116 at mile marker 23.7. The work consists of milling the existing pavement and resurfacing with hot mix asphalt. This section of Route 116 is
a limited access highway. In addition to pavement resurfacing the work will include re-alignment of the off ramp from Route 116 southbound to Route 9 westbound. The purpose of the re-alignment is to improve pedestrian and bicycle crossings at the intersection by eliminating the high-speed acceleration
lane and replacing it with a more perpendicular intersection with stop condition or low speed
yield control. The work also includes replacement of pavement markings, adjusting and rebuilding drainage structures, excavation of built-up sediment along shoulders to restore country drainage,
replacement of guardrail end treatments, placement of pavement millings to fill low shoulders, traffic controls, and other incidental items as necessary.
