Project Description: |
MIDDLEBOROUGH- INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS ON ROUTE 28 AT MERCHANT'S WAY AND WILLIAMS PLACE
The purpose of this project is to address safety concerns at the intersection of Route 28 at Merchant's
Way and Williams Place. The higher volumes on Route 28 vs. those on the side streets do not allow for
many gaps for vehicles to enter Route 28. Under the current unsignalized condition, these entry
movements are problematic. There is also a need for multi modal accommodations at this intersection.
Work on this project will include the installation of a traffic control signal (a roundabout will also be evaluated through the ICE process). The traffic signal installation will include ADA compliant pedestrian equipment, crosswalks, and curb ramps. Turn lanes on Route 28 will be evaluated for potential
improvements. The project will also include bicycle and pedestrian accommodations within the project limits to address safety and accessibility. The sidewalks will be reconstructed on the north side of Route 28 and a shared use path is proposed on the south side of Route 28.
