WHITMAN- CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENTS ON SOUTH AVENUE (ROUTE 27)
The scope of this project is to reconstruct South Avenue (Route 27) from Dyer Avenue to Plymouth Street (Route 58) in order to transform the corridor to a Complete Street and address the crash history along the corridor. The project will provide multimodal connectivity between the Whitman Commuter Rail Station, the Duval Elementary School, residences, and businesses located along the corridor with the surrounding neighborhoods, parks, and trails. The expansive roadway width will be reallocated to make a more efficient use of the space and allow for more comfortable pedestrian accommodations new
bicycle accommodations and streetscape enhancements to transform the corridor and slow the high vehicular travel speeds. In addition to calming traffic excessively long pedestrian crosswalks will be shortened to improve safety with road narrowing and bumpouts as appropriate.
