Project Description:
ACTON- RECONSTRUCTION OF ROUTE 2A/119 (GREAT ROAD), FROM DAVIS ROAD TO HARRIS STREET
The project proposes multi-modal "complete streets" improvements for all users along the corridor. A preliminary conceptual design that was developed as part of the initial complete streets study includes the opportunity for an accessible 10' shared use path on the northern side (with a 5' grass buffer) and an accessible 5' sidewalk on the southern side (with a 3' grass buffer). Additional high visibility crossings of Great Road are proposed to enhance access and connectivity between the rail trail, nearby residences, Veterans Memorial Park and local businesses. These are anticipated to receive proper countermeasures such as HAWK systems, where appropriate. The project will also include the evaluation of traffic operations and geometric improvements at the Great Road/Main Street intersection. The work is anticipated to address congestion and safety issues with the introduction of geometric modifications and traffic signal upgrades, or a roundabout. Minor intersection improvements at the intersections of Great Road/Meyer Hill Road and Great Road/Skyline Drive to enhance safety are also proposed. In addition, the project aims to introduce streetscape aesthetics, landscaping, stormwater best management practices (BMPs), and street lighting along the corridor.
