DISTRICT 2- DISTRICT 3- VRU CROSSWALK INSTALLATION AT STATE SIGNALS AT MULTIPLE LOCATIONS

This project is part of a multi-year effort, and the FY27 projects follow a previous round of projects from FY26 (614241/614242/614243). Improvements will include some or all of the following: changes to traffic signal timing, phasing, coordination, detection, addition or reconstruction of curb ramps and crosswalks, providing Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS) push buttons with countdown pedestrian signal heads, reconstruction of sidewalks connecting signalized intersections with bus stops, restricting right turns on red, and minor geometric changes. The FY27 projects include locations that may require ROW, Environmental permitting, more complex design considerations, or additional outreach to stakeholders and municipalities. This project involves upgrades at 4 locations for VRUs at or near MassDOT owned signals near bus stops in District 2 & 3. The first three locations are located in District 2 at the intersections of Russell St at the Hampshire Mall driveway, Hadley; East Main St (Route 20) at Delmont Ave, Westfield; and Springfield Rd (Route 20), Walmart to East Mountain Rd, Westfield. The third location is in District 3 at the intersection of Southbridge St (Route 12) at Oxford St North, Auburn.
